WRINKLES AND SCAR LASER TREATMENT WITH SCITON ERBIUM LASER
What is ERBIUM laser treatment (Microlaser Peel™, ProFractional™, Resurfacing)?
ERBIUM laser treatment (Microlaser Peel™, ProFractional™, Resurfacing) is a procedure that can help reduce the appearance of various skin imperfections, such as acne scars, brown spots, wrinkles, fine lines, and even stretch marks. It does so by removing the superficial layer of the skin or by damaging microscopic pinpoint areas of skin, which causes the growth of new, undamaged skin in these areas, while also promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which will help your skin appear firmer and more lifted. .

How does ERBIUM work
Collagen and elastin are proteins produced by cells in the body called fibroblasts. These proteins help maintain our skin’s structure: collagen provides strength, while elastin provides elasticity. The amount and quality of collagen and elastin we produce over time decreases, which leads to the development of wrinkles. When there is damage to tissues (for example, your skin), your body begins its natural healing process. During this process, the number of fibroblasts in the damaged area increases, and they begin secreting new collagen and elastin.
ProFractional™ laser works by emitting laser microbeams. These microbeams will create microscopic holes in the skin. Your body will then work to repair these holes. Because the areas of damage will be microscopic and surrounded by intact skin, the healing process will be relatively quick (3-7 days). The intact skin will help the damaged areas by releasing the factors necessary for stimulation of healing of the pinpoint damaged areas. New skin will grow in the damaged areas, and new collagen and elastin will also be deposited. The appearance of scars and discolourations will be reduced as new skin resurfaces and replaces the old tissue, and wrinkles will be reduced as collagen and elastin work together to help make skin firmer and more tightened! This procedure can be done on any part of the body. For full results, you will require 2 to 6 sessions, which can be scheduled at 6 weeks apart, depending on your needs.
With the Microlaser Peel™ treatment (Weekend Peel™), a complete but very superficial dermabrasion of the skin is done by Dr Doumit. The healing process is usually very fast (3-4 days). Smoother, radiant and improved skin tone skin will then develop to give a healthier skin look. Patient often sees a reduction in fine lines. For optimal results, 1 to 2 sessions at 6 week intervals may be necessary. Erbium ™ laser resurfacing removes a deeper layer of skin to provide a more dramatic result. The healing process requires 7-10 days of downtime. Erbium laser resurfacing of the face can remove pigmentation (brown spot, keratosis), soften deep wrinkles and improve scar and skin tone for a younger skin appearance. The production of new collagen and elastin tighten the skin for a rejuvenating youthful appearance. In general, one session is sufficient. Results will appear gradually over time as you go through the treatments. It may take 4 to 6 months after your treatment for full results to become apparent. However, the new skin produced by your body may become visible as early as one month after treatment, allowing you to see some results by this time.
What can I expect during the procedure?
ERBIUM laser treatment (Microlaser Peel™, ProFractional™, Resurfacing) can last from 15 to 45 minutes, although the specific length of time needed for your session will depend on how big the target area is. Before beginning the procedure, your doctor will apply a topical anesthetic cream to prevent any discomfort. You may also receive an oral nerve block if you are being treated near your mouth. An oral nerve block is what dentists use to numb your teeth before certain procedures, such as receiving fillings for cavities. If the procedure is targeting areas on your face, your doctor will place protective goggles over your eyes in order to prevent any damage from occurring to them. A handheld applicator will be placed directly on the surface of the skin of the target area, and will transmit the laser microbeams to the skin. The depth at which the microbeams will penetrate will be controlled by your doctor. They will use a depth that will be the most beneficial for you.
Immediately after your procedure, you will experience redness and some pinpoint bleeding in the treatment area. Your skin will take few days (Microlaser Peel™ 2-4 days, ProFractional™ 3-7 days, Resurfacing 7-10 days)to recover from the treatment. You will need to protect your skin from the sun during the healing process, as the new skin will be sensitive.
Does ERBIUM cause any side effects?
Profractional laser resurfacing is a non-surgical procedure, and therefore does not have many side effects. It is possible that you may experience some redness, swelling, and itching in the treated area. Laser treatment are best for white / fair skin tone. Laser treatment in darker skin tones can lead to some pigment irregularities in the treated area. Because small wounds are being inflicted on the skin, scar or infection are potential side effects. To decrease the risk of infection, your doctor will prescribe you with antibiotics following your session.
How long will the results last?
The results of erbium laser treatment (Microlaser Peel™, ProFractional™, Resurfacing) can last for many years following treatment. The specific amount of time results will last varies from person to person, and depends on your skin’s health as well as its specific aging process.
Is ERBIUM for everyone?
